Cell Phones For Education! Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
Did you know that cell phones, on average, are used for less than 18 months before being replaced? In America alone, more the 140 million cell phones will end up in landfills this year. Cell phones contain such toxic materials as lead, cadmium, nickel, and/or lithium. Nomad has a better solution!
DONATE YOUR CELL PHONE & PROVIDE AN EDUCATION Nomad Charities actively collects both new and used cell phones, with SIM cards only, for our recycling program. All phones are brought with us to Kenya, cleared through customs where we hold a tax exempt letter, and primarily given to our university students.
Our students in Kenya are given these cell phones and selling them to mostly government officials and businessmen, making up to $130 USD per phone! All funds raised through this program are used to pay for living expenses for our university students.
Nomad’ mission is to get the entire U.S. to embrace this concept of saving our landfills and helping put a child in need through school through this program. It’s brilliant!
HOW WE ERASE YOUR PERSONAL DATA
When the phones are in the U.S., we make sure to remove all SIM cards and erase as much data as possible, if not all. When the phones are in Kenya, they are ‘swiped’ erasing all data, ensuring that all phones that are donated are clear of any personal data. Nomad guarantees this!
