We have maize growing!
Now, this may not be exciting news to most of you BUT, since Nomad has owned our 5 acres of land (2006) this is our first crop of maize grown on our land and we are psyched! It will be enough to feed our kids living at Gail’s House for the entire year!
It took a lot of time and effort to get the fields ready, a fence erected around the entire property and of course water. The issue is always water.
In addition, we are growing tomatoes, beans, cow peas, cassava, water melon, carrots, onions and on and on. We are also planting several mango trees and will have our 6 banana trees producing fruit by August of 2015.
Pending the yearly rain fall, we will be able to use our new Honda generator to pump water to our fields, therefore allowing us to get up to 3 rotating crops of maize per year. Water, the key to life in Africa!
